The Five-Minute Scalp Massage That Changed Everything

By Asavari Bhardwaj

I get headaches. The kind that start at the base of your skull and wrap around your temples like a vice. I used to reach for painkillers. Now I reach for oil.

A five-minute scalp massage with our Kesh Oil has become my first line of defense. Not just for headaches, but for stress, for overwhelm, for that feeling of being too much in my head.

The Technique

Sit comfortably. You can do this at your desk, on your couch, wherever. Take a small amount of oil and warm it between your palms.

Start at the base of your skull. Use your fingertips, not your nails. Small, firm circles. You're not scratching, you're massaging the scalp itself.

Work your way up the back of your head, then the sides, then the top. Pay special attention to your temples. That's where we hold so much tension.

The Pressure

This isn't a gentle, spa-like touch. You want to use real pressure. Enough that you can feel it, that it almost hurts a little in a good way. You're releasing tension that's been building up, sometimes for days.

What Happens

Within a minute or two, you'll feel your shoulders drop. Your jaw will unclench. You might even sigh without meaning to. That's your nervous system downshifting.

If you have a headache, it won't disappear instantly. But it will soften. The edges will blur. Sometimes it goes away completely.

The Science

In Ayurveda, we talk about Prana Vayu, the energy that governs the head, the brain, the senses. When it's out of balance, we get headaches, anxiety, insomnia, brain fog.

Scalp massage with oil balances Prana Vayu. It literally brings energy down and out, instead of letting it swirl around in your head.

Make It a Habit

I do this every day now. Sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night. Sometimes in the middle of the day when I feel myself starting to spiral.

Five minutes. That's all it takes. And you don't even need to wash your hair afterward. The small amount of oil absorbs, or you can just tie your hair up.

Try it the next time you feel a headache coming on. Or the next time you feel overwhelmed. Or just because.

Your head will thank you.
