The Body Care Ritual I Wish I'd Started Sooner
By Asavari Bhardwaj
For years, I took care of my face and ignored the rest of my body. I'd spend money on fancy face serums and then use whatever soap was on sale for my body. It made no sense.
Now I have a body care ritual that I actually look forward to. It takes maybe ten extra minutes in the shower, but the difference is profound.
The Dry Brush
Before I even turn on the water, I dry brush. I use a natural bristle brush and I brush toward my heart. Legs up, arms toward the chest, belly in circles.
It wakes up my skin. It gets my lymph moving. And honestly, it just feels good. Like I'm shaking off whatever I don't need to carry into the day.
The Cleanse
I use our Snaan Bar for my body. It's gentle enough for my face, which means it's definitely gentle enough for everywhere else. I lather it up and I take my time.
I pay attention to my body. Not in a critical way, in a grateful way. These legs carry me. These arms hold the people I love. This body is doing its best.
The Oil
Here's the key: I apply oil while I'm still wet. Right there in the shower, before I even turn off the water. I use our Snaan Oil.
I smooth it over my damp skin, and then I gently pat dry with a towel. The water helps the oil spread, and it locks in moisture in a way that lotion never could.
Why It Works
In Ayurveda, oil is medicine. It's not just about soft skin, though that's a nice benefit. Oil nourishes the tissues, calms the nervous system, and creates a protective barrier between you and the world.
I notice that on days when I skip this, my skin feels dry by midday. But more than that, I feel more frazzled. More permeable. Like everything gets to me more easily.
The Difference
My skin is softer. My body feels cared for. And there's something about starting the day by literally anointing yourself that changes how you move through the world.
You feel worthy. You feel tended to. Because you are.
Try It
You don't need fancy tools or a lot of time. Just oil and intention. Do it once and notice how you feel. Notice how your skin feels. Notice how your day unfolds.
This is self-care that actually cares for your self. Not as an indulgence, but as a practice. As a way of being.
